Every vessel created under my namesake brand, Jaime Franco, begins far away from the workbench. It starts with lace-up boots, a gathering basket, and a quiet trek into the local foothill trails of Southern California.
Foraging for my art is a lesson in patience and presence. I am not picking fresh needles from the branches; instead, I am searching the forest floor for the perfect, naturally fallen long-needle pines that have been sun-cured by the California climate. Walking beneath the canopy, surrounded by the crisp scent of native chaparral and warm earth, is where the creative vision for the vessels currently sitting in my gallery took root.
The raw materials: A morning's gather along the trail.
Once my basket is filled, the process transitions back to the studio. Before these organic fibers ever met the clay forms, they were meticulously prepared—washed by hand, sorted carefully by length, and dried on my studio tables before being intricately stitched onto hand-built stoneware over cycles of 12 hours.
The completed vessels from this exact foraging journey are officially resting in the studio gallery right now, ready to find their permanent homes.
Thank you for supporting this slow, wild-crafted journey.
